"Moskovskaya" underground station
The general name of the station design sounds like ‘Moscow - the capital of our motherland’. The section of Leninsky Prospekt that is now Independence Avenue, where the station is located, was to be renamed Moskovsky Prospekt.
Vladimir Stelmashonok and Valery Dovgalo specially travelled to Moscow to sketch buildings and street plans. During the work, it was impossible to find the right solution for the layout of the Florentine mosaic: there were too many objects and small details, ‘the perspective was falling apart’, as Valery Dovgalo recalled
As a result, Red Square, the Mausoleum, the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, the building of Moscow State University, the Bolshoi Theatre, and the State Historical Museum appeared on the walls. A large clock was made above the stairs, reminiscent of the chimes on the Kremlin towers. The grey and white tone of Florentine mosaics and golden details to create an image of the white-stone and golden-headed city.
