Panel "Gardeners" hotel Planeta
The Planet Hotel was built especially for the Olympics. A whole team of artists was involved in the decoration. The panels in the inner courtyard and the relief on the facade were made by artist Evgeny Kuznetsov. Girls with flowers as if welcoming guests.
The ceramic panel ‘Gardens’ is one of the most lyrical works in Belarusian monumental painting.
The artist was praised and scolded at the same time. Some critics reproached Kuznetsov for excessive fascination with the Renaissance and romanticisation, departure from the Soviet and Belarusian image. Others, on the contrary, emphasised the timelessness of the work and compared ‘Sadownits’ with Botticelli's female images. Kuznetsov was well versed in the history of art; he kept a huge number of art albums at home. Now the panel at the Planeta Hotel is the only work of the artist that can be freely seen.
