Restaurant "Arbat"
In front of the residential building line, the Soyuzpechat store (currently Belkniga), a store with the optimistic name Schastye (currently a store of the Santa-Bremor chain) and the Arbat cafe (currently the Arbat restaurant) were built. The artist Tamara Kirschina worked on the complex design of the exteriors and interiors. For the exterior cladding, the artist used three-dimensional forms covered with white enamel. The artist came up with a complex volume - a prism with a cut resembling a tongue of flame. A strip of golden smalt runs down the middle of all the buildings. The white and gold colors were a reference to the white-stone and golden-domed image of Moscow.
The exterior and interior of the Arbat stores and cafe initially formed a single visual whole. In the cafe, all the interior ceramics were dismantled during the renovation. The department store was a little luckier - the white reliefs with towers were only repainted in a dark color. The store has preserved its original chandeliers.
