"Yakub Kolos Square" undeground station
Ceramic panels and tiles for the station were cast at the Radoskovichi factory. The vaults of the station resemble the ceilings of a traditional village house.
Initially the panels were to cover the track walls, but then the city executive committee wanted monotonous ornament on the columns and the lower part to be faced in dark granite. The artists managed to defend the figurative ceramics. At the last moment one of the officials saw anti-Soviet symbols in the ornament and demanded to change them to sickle and hammer. They had to invite a specialist in Belarusian culture and prove the national origin of the ornament.
The design of the station includes 13 original ceramic panels and 91 repeating elements. The initial idea of the design belongs to artists Yury Bogushevich and Gennady Zharin, the modules for the ceramics were designed by Valery Dovgalo. Olga Arzhanukhina worked on the ceramic panels. Repeating elements were made by Lev Tolbuzin.
